Dr Yufeng Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in Operations Management at Birmingham University.
Yufeng received his undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering (BEng) and International Finance (BEng) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China; earned his MSc in Global Production Engineering with honours from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany; and gained his PhD in Engineering at Cambridge University, UK, for working on Global Engineering Networks.
Yufeng’s early industrial career included responsibilities for project management, key account management and new business development in the manufacturing and engineering sectors. He continues to work very closely with industry, and have researched and published in the areas of engineering management, network operations, international manufacturing, and technology management. He is now Director of joint business programmes with engineering, sciences & law; and Coordinator of EC-HVEN. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In this talk，Yufeng is going to review the changing global landscape of engineering and introduce the concept of engineering value chain (EVC). His presentation will identify the unique nature of engineering and explore new trends of development for high value engineering and service. Key findings from his recent studies with a wide range of engineering and manufacturing companies will be highlighted. Insights and guidance for the effective design and operations of global engineering value chains will be provided. This talk concludes by suggesting promising research areas via the Europe-China High Value Engineering Network (EC-HVEN).
